Main Floor Bath

Well, the main floor bath is basically done. I have a few minor finishing touches to do, but otherwise, its done. It's a whole new bathroom.....should have remodeled it years ago!

Im looking forward to building the new house so I can set up the bathroom how I want, not the way it has to be done because of someone elses crappy work in the past. This bathroom had some challenges because of the spacing that was used when it was built originally. All in all, it came out really well!

One Step Closer

Well, last night, while mowing my lawn, my friend Joe replaced my dining room chandelier with a new overhead light. This is just one more step towards getting the house ready to sell. This one is a big one because the chandelier in question is the one that used to hang in my parents house while I was growing up.

A little history behind it:

My father made this chandelier for my mother in 1963. I can't remember a time when it wasn't hanging in the dining room of the house I grew up in.

When my father passed away in 1997, I asked his girlfriend if I could have the chandelier. She said she wasnt ready to part with it yet, so I let her keep it as long as she needed. The following holiday season, I recieved a very big box on my front porch. When I opened it, it brought tears to my eyes. It was my fathers chandelier!

I carefully dismantled it and wiped away the years of smoke and the tarnished varnish that was covering it. I rewired it and changed out the white globes for candlesticks. I gave it a place of honor in my dining room.

Now, it has been put away for safe keeping. When the new house gets to the point of needing lights in the dining room, it will have a new place of honor.

Remodeling

I'm in the process of doing some minor remodeling of the house in order to get it ready for selling. This past week, I tore apart the downstairs bathroom, removing the tub surround, upper wall paper, sink, and molding. Last night I cut in the new paint color for the upper parts of the walls. I am hoping to get the rest of it painted tonight & install the new light fixture. This weekend, I should be able to get the new white vinyl wainscoting & molding installed along with the new tub surround.

The next step will be do start on the floor. My friend Kate gave me the idea to paint the floor instead of installing a new flooring. I guess she saw this technique on HGTV. So, I figured...what can it hurt? if I don't like it...I can install new flooring over the top. I will post pics on here of the progress.

Next comes the upstairs bathroom... I need to replace the tub surround due to some grouting/sealant issues. I ended up having some sheet rock damage, so replaced a square of sheet rock and am contemplating putting in a glass door instead of curtain to keep it from leaking again. I'm also going to have to replace the floor. Not sure what I will do for the floor up there....but the press board they used for the floor is puffed up in places, so might have to replace some of the sub floor too.

I have a few other minor things to do in order to get the house ready to sell, so will be working frantically to get them done.

Wish me luck!

Doors

I was chatting with a very wise Irish woman this past week, most of you know who she is, and she made some off the wall comment about doors....something about shutting the ones that need to be shut.

Im finding that I dont shut doors very well. I seem to leave them open, maybe just ajar enough so there's a chance they can be reopened. My problem is that there is a huge draft because so many doors are open! So.....I have decided to start closing some of them, leaving room for new ones to open.

Things will be changing....ever so slightly, but they will change.

Here goes nothin....

Not sure where Im going to go with this...but need a way to get my thoughts across. I have learned that there are things that are meant to be shared with others and there are things one should keep to themselves. This blog will be a little of both....lol
